Ghostface Killah - Sadly Healthy
I was sadden to hear that the new album from Rae, Ghost, and Meth will not be coming out this year. I can’t say I didn’t call it. Either way, I can’t wait to hear what these three are cooking up. Hopefully everything will be on scale with “Yolanda’s House” or “New Wu”.
As I revealed last week, I started on a remix album for these guys since I probably won’t make the album. One joint in particular I flipped with the quickness was Ghostface’s “Mighty Healthy”.
“Mighty Healthy” is one of those breakbeat driven tracks we need more of in hip hop. Along with the sample and random excerpts, this gives Ghostface the perfect canvas to paint his picture. Ghostface does a terrific job revealing the woes of the hood and keeping it raw.
When I began remixing it, I wanted to utilize a break that was just as raw as the one he rapped to. I already had the sample chopped and sequenced inside of the MPC. In October, I made about 25 beats with Ghostface, Rae, and Meth in mind. So at this stage I just have to go through the breaks (c. Kurtis Blow).
This beat was originally made as an introduction to the remix album. For some odd reason when I played this with “Mighty Healthy” it sounded different, in a good way. So sad, yet raw enough to provide Ghostface the perfect background to spit the truth. Well, enjoy. There is more coming soon.
